Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located situated in Washington DC. Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. Beginning in 1981, she began working for the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. She was made the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell has been a panelist and anchor of the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. The reporting she did included plenty of important stories like the Iran-Contra controversy, tax and budget reforms, as well as the issue of arms control. She traveled extensively along with President Reagan for summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
